How to find my dad a girlfriend?

My parent's got a divorce when I was seven. At the time it was a very hard thing to go through but my parents couldn't have handled it in a better way. They are extremely civilized with each other.. They can come into each others homes, my dad is even pretty much friends with my mother's husband. But I would have to say that hardest part of my parents being divorced is the worry I feel about my dad being lonely. I haven't directly asked him if he is lonely but I am kind of getting the sense that he is. I moved out of the house after I graduated high school about a year ago and in a year and a half my brother will be moving out as well. The thought of him eating dinner alone, sleeping alone, etc. has really started to get to me to a point where I often find myself crying because I want to help him so much but I'm not sure how. Luckily I live in the same city as him currently so I try to spend time with him as much as possible but soon will be moving out of the state with my boyfriend. I have thought about not moving with my boyfriend because the thought of him being alone and not being able to see him is too hard to deal with. This being said I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to find my dad a companion? I really really really could use the help. Thank you

I must say that your entry is quite moving. I am answering from a father's standpoint. I am recently divorced and I have two children. I have often thought about what their experience may be having two homes. My ex-wife and I are able to have a decent relationship thus far and we often talk how to continue to progress a friendship so our children are able to see what you saw growing up. However, I can say without any reservation that I would never want my children missing out on their life events or taking chances because they thought I (or their mother) was lonely. I don't know your father, but the little bit ice gathered from your post, he does not sound like a father who would want (or even allow) his daughter to pass up new life events for fear of him being lonely. I applaud you for thinking so much of your father; for showing him so much respect and love. I recommend speaking with him and let him discuss his views as well. As for finding him a companion, that is his choice; when/if he is ready, you can assist him in discussing the best options for meeting a new partner. Good luck!

You are very sweet to want to do this for your Dad, I can understand how you feel. I am going through similar with my Mom. The difference is, my Dad passed away and they were so close married over 40 years. It has been 4 years now since and I know she is lonely. I also cry and feel sad thinking about her being alone, because my husband and I are also getting ready to leave this town and will be 2 thousand miles away from her, I need to find her someone her age.
I wish you the best of luck. :-)
